Does El Corte Inglés sell the Midea PortaSplit?

Yes. El Corte Inglés lists the Midea PortaSplit 12,000 BTU / 3.5 kW (model MMCS-12HRN8-QRD0) with its own product page and internal reference (A54703665). It is the same unit the specialist climate shops sell: a no-works split, with an outdoor unit and a heat pump, that cools in summer and heats in winter.

Being in the catalogue does not mean it is in stock. The PortaSplit is scarce across Spain, and El Corte Inglés is no exception: the page usually shows it as unavailable or "notify me", and stock comes and goes with no notice, just like everywhere else. Seeing the page and being able to buy it are two different things.

Availability: why you see it sold out almost always

The underlying reason is the same at any shop: demand far outstrips the units Midea distributes, so each batch sells out within hours and waits between restocks can run two or three weeks. We cover it in depth in the why the PortaSplit sells out guide.

At El Corte Inglés there is an extra wrinkle: two kinds of stock coexist on the same page. On one hand, the chain’s own; on the other, its marketplace third-party sellers. There may be "stock" on the page but from a third party at a much higher price, not from El Corte Inglés at a normal price. Before buying, always check who is selling and who is shipping.

Price at El Corte Inglés and the third-party markup

The PortaSplit is a premium product everywhere. Across the Spanish shops we monitor, the in-season price has ranged from about €990 to €1,234, with a list price higher still. El Corte Inglés’s price for its own stock fits within that premium band; we do not publish an exact chain figure because its site does not expose that data in a way we can verify without inventing it.

The usual trap comes with scarcity: when there is no own stock, marketplace third-party sellers list units well above the normal price. Technically you can buy it, but you pay the urgency premium. As a rule, if the gap with the €990–1,234 band is large, it almost always pays to wait for a normal-price restock rather than overpay in a hurry.

Own stock vs marketplace: who you are buying from

This is the point that saves the most grief. On the same El Corte Inglés page you can find:

• Sold and shipped by El Corte Inglés: the chain’s own stock, with its usual warranty and returns, at the house price.
• Sold by a third party (marketplace): an external seller using El Corte Inglés’s platform. Warranty and returns depend on that seller, and the scarcity price is usually inflated.

Neither is "bad" by definition, but they are not the same. Check the "sold by / shipped by" line before paying, especially if the price looks odd or too high for the moment.
